Work Based Learning: Career Exploration Internship

WORK BASED LEARNING (WBL), CAREER EXPLORATION INTERNSHIPCareer Internship is a stand-alone course that prepares students for college and career. This strategy builds students’ skills and knowledge in their chosen career path. Curriculum is two-fold:  a) a true “work based” experience that occurs in workplaces and involves an employer assigning a student meaningful job tasks to develop his or her skills, knowledge, and readiness for work; a clear partnership agreement and training plan is developed by the student, teacher, and workplace mentor/supervisor to guide the student’s work based experiences and assist in evaluating achievement and performance; and b) a classroom environment that allows opportunity for students to further develop skills and allow for personal reflection based on the workplace experience.

Topics addressed include the assessment and application of leadership skills and roles, the importance of business ethics, analysis of safety standards and procedures, job search and application creation, communication and conflict management, and purposes of written documentation.  All assignments will be Canvas-based and follow the expected growth and development of skills as it pertains to the work site internship.
