Pre Calculus/Trigonometry Honors
PRE-CALCULUS/TRIGONOMETRY HONORS: This is a year-long course that uses advanced algebraic concepts that are handled from an algebraic as well as geometric standpoint. The first part of the course is devoted to a rigorous treatment of trigonometry, functions, vectors, logarithmic and exponential functions, parametric equations, and sequences and series. During the second semester of the course, the study of Calculus will begin. The following Calculus topics are covered in depth: properties of limits, derivatives of power function, trigonometric functions, and exponential/logarithmic functions as well as derivatives of a product and quotient of two functions, and inverse trigonometric functions. Differentiability and continuity as well as derivatives of parametric functions and implicit relations is covered. All topics are approached from theory, applications are more in-depth, and the course is paced much faster than regular Pre-Calculus. The goal of this course is to prepare students to take Advanced Placement Calculus BC. Students will need access to a TI-84 graphing calculator.
