Coach JR Howell came to Zionsville in 2020 after coaching at Carmel High School. He started out as a junior varsity coach at Center Grove High School before moving to the college ranks for two years at Anderson and Northwood (Mich.). His first head coaching job was at Caston High School (2013-15) before he went on to coach at Western Boone High School (2015-17). Howell was a state champion as a player at Lapel in 2004-05, and went on to play at Marian University before starting his coaching career.

Coach Howell resides in Zionsville with his wife, Kate, and his sons, Jack and Tucker.
