Karen McDaniel

Karen McDaniel, Principal

After earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Chemistry from Southern Illinois University and later my Master’s in Secondary Education from the University of Southern Indiana, I taught science and held several school leadership roles in rural and growing communities. I began my administrative career at Avon High School, then moved to Carmel High School in 2008, where I served as assistant principal for Student and Special Services for 12 years and as Associate Principal for the last 4 years.

Safety and security of our school community has been a passion of mine throughout my tenure in education.  When students feel physically and emotionally safe, they thrive in their school environment.  That passion has led me to being an active board member of the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), Indiana School Resource Officer Association (INSROA) and a trained Indiana School Safety Specialist.  I also bring experience supporting our community of learners in the broader community as an Autism Cadre Leader, member of the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative (JDAI) in my previous county, and member of an Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) legislative advisory committee to the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) Education Secretary.

It is truly an honor to share in the rich academic and extracurricular traditions of such an outstanding school community. The opportunity to help cultivate a dynamic learning environment with the students, staff, and families of ZCHS is humbling and exciting.

I look forward to partnering with the stakeholders of Zionsville Community Schools to ensure our students are Strong in Every Way.
