Advanced Placement (AP) Music Theory
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) MUSIC THEORY: Music theory, in its simplest terms, is the study of how music is put together; or how music works. This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in music theory by studying the following: notation and common practice, tonal harmony, rhythmic structures, and formal devices. Students will also develop other aspects of musicianship: aural skills, sight-singing skills, and compositional skills. The course is designed to prepare students for success in the AP Music Theory Exam. Ensemble and solo activities are designed to develop elements of musicianship including, but not limited to, technical skills, intonation, music reading skills, listening skills, analyzing music, and studying historically significant styles of literature.
