Purpose of the Customized Learning Program

Mission

The customized learning program will seek to provide all students with a challenging and flexible learning environment.  The program staff will promote a safe, orderly, caring, and supportive learning environment.  We work with high school and middle school students.

The program will cater to the individual differences and learning needs of each student participant.  Each student will be held to high expectations.  The Customized learning environment will encourage each student to explore career and personal goals.  Students will understand the social and emotional skills needed to be successful.  The program will seek to provide a community or staff member mentors for each student.  The mentor will seek to develop a positive rapport with students and help students practice their communication, problem solving, and decision making skills.

Active involvement of parents, teachers, guidance counselors, community members, and local business will be essential to the support of each student’s development and success.  The Customized Education program will provide opportunities for parents and community members to be actively involved in each student’s development in the program.

Rationale: The following proposal was created in the effort to help more high school students by capitalizing on the non-traditional practices used as a part of our customized learning programs.  Customized learning opportunities maximize the use of each teacher, counselor, secretary, administrator, partnership, and community stakeholder.

Zionsville High School students will be able to encourage motivated students, and celebrate the successes of our students by providing individualized support that leads to a successful graduation and a post-graduation pathway.  The customized learning staff will provide guidance and opportunities that will help prepare students for life, college, and/or careers.  Students will create a post-secondary portfolio which they will keep on their flash drive. The portfolio will contain a resume, letters of reference, and explanations of their career experiences to name a few things.
